The Asian Pacific Aquaculture 2024 (APA24) event was held in Surabaya from July 3–5, 2024. This event is an annual activity organized by the World Aquaculture Society – Asian Pacific Chapter (WAS-APC). In this edition, it was hosted by the Directorate General of Aquaculture, Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) of the Republic of Indonesia, in collaboration with the Indonesian Aquaculture Society (MAI).
The Asian Pacific Chapter (APC) is part of the World Aquaculture Society (WAS), an international professional network committed to excellence in science, technology, and education in the field of aquaculture.This major event, themed “Aquaculture Driving the Blue Economy,” was attended by more than 5,000 participants and 75 companies from both domestic and international sectors. The event was officially opened by the Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, K.H. Ma’ruf Amin.

This event serves as a strategic moment for aquaculture in Indonesia in particular, and the Asia-Pacific region in general, to address challenges in the aquaculture sector. According to the President of the Asian Pacific Chapter, Dr. Krishna R. Salin, aquaculture in Asia continues to play a crucial role in global fish production despite facing various challenges such as disease outbreaks and market uncertainties.
At least 28 sessions were featured in APA24, including: Freshwater Aquaculture; Sea Cucumbers and Sea Urchins; Sustainability of the Shrimp Industry – Perspective of a Multispecies Animal Genetics Group; Shrimp Diseases and Health Management; Larviculture, Live Feeds, and Hatchery Management; Aquaculture Engineering, Waste Recycling, and Treatment; Nutrition, Feed Ingredients, Feed Additives, and Feed Technology; Broodstock, Breeding, Genetics, and Domestication; Economics, Value Chain Development, Marketing and Trade, Investment, Policy and Regulations; Information Technology in Aquaculture; Blue Economy; Food Safety, Inspection, Audit, and Security; Immunology, Vaccines, Probiotics, Prebiotics, and Symbiotics; General Aquaculture; Disease Diagnosis, Drugs, Chemotherapeutics, and Treatment Methods; Aquatic Animal Welfare; Bivalves, Crabs, and Lobsters; Shrimp Farm Design and Management; Microalgae–Bacteria Valorization; Production to Application; Macrophytes and Algae; Aquaculture Systems (Integrated Aquaculture, RAS, Biofloc, Aquaponics); Shrimp/Prawn Nutrition and Feeds; Women in Aquaculture; Water Quality, Usage, and Management; Ornamental Fish and Systems; Epidemiology and Health Management; Environmental Issues, Biodiversity, Climate Change, and Adaptation in Aquaculture and Fisheries; Education, Extension, and Technology Transfer; and Shrimp Farmers Day.
