The successful implementation of the Aquaculture Outbound Student Exchange (AOSE) program has become a strong foundation for making it an annual regular agenda. From the previous five AOSE activities, this program has produced various strategic achievements, including the signing of a research collaboration Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT), Malaysia, and Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology (TUMSAT), Japan. In addition, three AOSE alumni successfully continued their master’s and doctoral studies at UMT through a scholarship scheme, and two students from the Aquaculture Study Program carried out joint research activities at TUMSAT.
The AOSE program is also designed to support the improvement of lecturers’ performance through activities outside the campus while contributing to the achievement of Key Performance Indicators (KPI) 2, KPI 3, KPI 5, and KPI 6. Moreover, this activity serves as a means to study the latest research developments in the field of aquaculture in the destination country, as well as to introduce the application of advanced technology in aquaculture practices oriented towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Building on that success, AOSE#6 was held again from November 9–19, 2025 at Hiroshima University, Japan, involving 12 participants. The program focused on enhancing academic experience and understanding of international research. Various scientific agendas were carried out, including discussions with professors and researchers from Hiroshima University, as well as a lecture session by Professor Kazuhiko Koike covering modern research methods, laboratory practices, and global collaboration opportunities.
During the activities, participants gained comprehensive insights into Japanese academic culture, international research standards, and expanded their research collaboration networks. Overall, AOSE#6 had a significant impact in enhancing academic competence, strengthening research motivation, and opening up broader collaboration opportunities between institutions in Indonesia and Japan.
