Community Service Activity by the Aquaculture Study Program, Faculty of Marine Science and Fisheries, Hasanuddin University at Pesantren Shohwatul Is’ad
The Aquaculture Study Program of the Faculty of Marine Science and Fisheries, Hasanuddin University, conducted a community service activity at Pesantren Shohwatul Is’ad, Ma’rang District, Pangkep Regency. The event was conducted at 21st of May 2023 and attended by lecturers from the Aquaculture Study Program, the Chairman of the Shohid Foundation, the principals of local high schools and junior high schools, representatives of the students, community leaders, and the astidz of PPMI Shohwatul Is’ad.
The main focus of the activity was to provide valuable knowledge and skills related to the proper techniques of tilapia fish cultivation, particularly in tarpaulin ponds, as well as the technology for feed production. The community members were eager to learn about these topics as they were interested in improving their fish cultivation practices.
The event commenced with a presentation by Dr. Ir. Edison Saade, M.Sc, titled “Feed Production Technology.” Dr. Saade shared valuable insights on the proper formulation and production of fish feed, emphasizing the importance of balanced nutrition for optimal fish growth and health. The participants were encouraged to adopt these techniques to enhance the productivity of their fish farms.
Following Dr. Saade’s presentation, Dr. Andi Aliyah Hidayani, S.Si, M.Si, delivered a presentation on “Male Fish Production Procedure.” Dr. Hidayani provided detailed guidance on the process of sex reversal in tilapia, a technique used to obtain an all-male population for improved growth rates and reduced reproduction. The participants found this information valuable and expressed their enthusiasm to implement the technique in their own fish cultivation endeavors.
The community service activity was a collaborative effort between the Fisheries Cultivation Study Program and the Shohwatul Is’ad Pesantren community. It aimed to empower the local community with practical knowledge and skills to enhance their fish cultivation practices and improve their economic well-being.
The Chairman of the Shohid Foundation expressed his gratitude to the faculty members and students for their dedication to community development. He stated, “This community service activity has provided valuable knowledge and insights that will greatly benefit our community. We appreciate the efforts made by the Fisheries Cultivation Study Program and look forward to further collaboration in the future.”
The event concluded with a sense of optimism and commitment from both the participants and the organizers. The Fisheries Cultivation Study Program at Hasanuddin University reaffirmed its commitment to continue engaging in community service activities to support the sustainable development of local fisheries and empower communities through knowledge transfer and practical guidance.
