Field Practice for Aquaculture Students of Hasanuddin University at the Research Institute for Brackish Water Aquaculture and Fisheries Extension-IPU Siddo

On Wednesday, June 7, 2023, students from the Aquaculture program at the Faculty of Marine Science and Fisheries, Hasanuddin University, conducted a field practice at the Brackish Water Aquaculture Research Center and Fisheries Extension-IPU Siddo, Barru Regency. The activity was attended by accompanying lecturers who are experts in their fields, namely Mr. Ir. Edison Saade, M.Sc, Ph.D., Dr. Ir. Rustam, M.Si, and Dr. Marlina Ahmad, S.Pi., M.Si.

In this field practice activity, Aquaculture students had the opportunity to expand their understanding of marine cultivation. By visiting floating net cages that housed various marine fish commodities, the students were able to observe firsthand the techniques and processes involved in aquaculture.During their visit to the floating net cages, the students were able to observe various aspects of marine cultivation, including the selection and handling of fish seeds, feed management, disease control, and good maintenance techniques. The students were also encouraged to understand the environmental impacts of aquaculture and the efforts made to maintain ecosystem balance.

The field practice activity is part of the efforts by the Faculty of Marine Science and Fisheries at Hasanuddin University to provide holistic learning experiences for its students. It is expected that through such activities, Aquaculture students can become skilled professionals ready to face the dynamic fisheries industry.
